The tale of the tire….

So yeah, if you have followed the story on facebook you all know that I woke up Monday morning to a flat tire. Yeah, it happens to everyone but still it stinks big time.

So I do the morning radio show, The Madhouse with Mike, then go out to change the tire to the spare and go get a new tire. Well therein lies the tale.

1st off the truck was parked on a gravel driveway and the jack that I have just wasn’t lifting the truck up high enough. So, time to go get a new jack. Cousin James takes me over to the auto parts store, I’m not gonna name them.

The 1st jack that the guy offered me was $199 and I pretty much told him where he could stick that jack. I wound up getting one for $99, sheesh that hurt.

Get back to the house, get the tire off, put the spare on, go over to the tire place. They had to order the tire, it wouldn’t be ready til Tuesday, ok no problem. So I park the truck and just get back to work.

Come Tuesday, no call. Waiting all day, nothing. So I call them, they guy is like yeah hey one sec let me check. Oh yeah. The tire truck came but we didn’t get your tire off the truck *facepalms*

Long and short of it, it took til Wednesday and $250 dollars later I’ve got the new tire on my truck.

What the heck does this have to do with #voiceovers? Well. I got home and looked at the bank account and just said gotta get to it. Just keep on trucking (no pun intended) It’s a grind ladies and gentlemen. The marketing, the auditions, the emails, building your website yada yada yada. You can’t ever give up. It’s a day in and day out grind and you have to have the drive and the ambition to reach your goals. Start off with something small, a small dollar amount per day. Then as you are consistently making it, raise it.

Have a goal for your marketing. Have a goal for auditions.

Remember folks it’s a grind, but if you work hard at it and don’t give up, you can make it.

Til the next time you hear me, be good to each other….

Marathon audio book is done…

For those of you that have been following I was working on a 105k audio book. I finished it up the other day and its kind of a weird feeling. Its almost like, ok that’s done… so now what?

It’s not like I don’t have any other projects, it’s just that this one took the longest of any project I have done in the past and to top all that off it was a fun read. I enjoyed the story behind it. To check out the book just click here: Entitlement: Cause and Effect. Now I’m not getting any royalties off this one, this was a pay for the recording deal, so I’m not getting anything out of promoting this book other than I think that everyone should read it. Lots of life lessons in it, I know that it made me take a step back and look at things a little differently.

So what now? More voice over projects, more marketing, more videos…. just another day in the life.

That doesn’t mean I couldn’t always use more 🙂 If you have a voice over project you need “the voice” for, send me a message and we’ll work out the details.

Until you hear me again, be good to each other, it’s free…

Sometimes Voice Over work is really fun…

So I was talking to my sister Carina yesterday, just about this and that. Then out of nowhere she asks, “Didn’t you say something about you doing radio commercials too?” Yes I do occasionally get some offers for radio commercials and I know there are a few out there right now of me touting some product or store or something.

So she tells me that she heard one the other day and was like, “I think that’s my brother!!!!!” Pointing at the radio all proud and stuff. Well she knows my voice really well so I’m gonna go with, yeah it probably was me.

I have to say it was a pretty cool moment. I mean I know I’ve done a lot of work that a lot of people have heard all over the country and all over the world, but to have your sister just hear something out of the blue, it’s a special kinda cool.

That’s all for today, I just wanted to relate that short story. I’ve got to get back behind the mic and do some more work on this big book project that I’ve been working on for the last week or so.

Until you hear me next (and it could be anywhere at any time apparently) be good to each other….

The ups and downs of a voice over artist…

So we’re not going to talk about how I burned my arm by spilling coffee on it this morning (yeah ok it hurts and it’s actually making typing tough but I’ll soldier my way through it)

I was sitting here looking at my inbox at the work that was waiting for me this morning. Being very thankful that I did have some work sitting there, as I did yesterday morning; it got me thinking about the way our days go sometimes.

1 day we can have more work than we think we can handle (we get it done) and other days we spend more time marketing, sending emails, calls, blogs, videos, etc.

I am very thankful that things in my voice over business have started to pick up. The last couple of weeks have been pretty good, and last week specifically was a really good week. On top of that I signed the largest book narration deal that I’ve ever done. The bonus of that is that its actually an interesting book 🙂

The long and short of what I’m trying to say this morning is this. Don’t let the “slower” days get you down. If you work hard, market yourself well, and deliver a fantastic end product quickly the “better” days will come. Keep at it, don’t let up…. You have to work and want it and the harder you work today, the better tomorrow will be.

Take care all. Have a great day and fight the good fight. If you want something… go out and get it, no one is going to do it for you.

Until you hear me again… be good to each other 🙂
